Every now and then, it’s good to refine, improve and evolve – and the iTakeout website and brand is no exception. Over the next few months we are planning some major design improvements to the site that we are very excited about. In this post we are going to preview some of the changes to give you a sneak peak of what is to come.

We often receive feedback about the look and feel of the site – and one frequent comment is “it’s very green” Good call we think and so our new design takes the unprecedented step of adding another couple of colours into the mix – and we think it looks awesome.

We’ve increased the size of the site width wise to give more space for information and the logo has gone brown! With the addition of some extra colours the site feels fresh an easy to use and we are pleased with how it has evolved.

The core function of the site and the way you build up an order hasn’t changed – as that was one thing that we’ve been told is really great about the current site.

The menu page has also undergone some significant work to make it clearer and easier to use. Your order will stay fixed on the right even when you scroll down so you don’t have to remember what you’ve ordered and we’ve improved our filtering and searching features.

We’ve still some work to do to get this completed but we hope that by the end of the summer the new design will be live. Until that time we welcome any feedback from you – the people who will be using it. Tell us what you like about the current site and tell us if there is anything it doesn’t do that it should.

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites the Internet has ever seen. One of it’s latest features is the ability for a person to tell their social network what they ‘like’ – and this can be anything from a post, a photo or even a person, band or organisation – all from the click of a mouse.

A life changing discovery? No. Pointless? Maybe. A way to tell people about things you are involved with and think are great? Definitely.

Well at iTakeout we don’t like to be left out in the cold when there is pointless mouse-clicking to be done. You may have noticed that we have introduced some ‘Like’ buttons directly onto the iTakeout site. No longer do you need to order your favourite takeout and then write something like ‘just ordered from iTakeout’ manually on your profile. You can simply click the button and all your friends will know that you ‘like’ us – and we hope they will like us too.

On your preferences page (click your name in the top-right when you are logged in) you can tell your friends that you like iTakeout. Go on, be nice and give it a click!

More usefully, on each restaurant page, under your order on the right you can tell everyone that you recommend that particular restaurant. So if you enjoy a restaurants food or have just had a good meal, take the plunge and recommend them to your friends.

Will you enjoy using these new features as much as you meal itself? We hope not – but it’s a bit of fun. So get clicking!

We like a bit of publicity – in fact we are working hard at the moment to get the name “iTakeout” on the mind of every hungry person in Portsmouth. We were really chuffed therefore to get the opportunity to get some exposure in the Portsmouth News this week.

iTakeout LTD was featured in the ‘Business Jury’ section of the paper – this is the part of the business section where a new business is reviewed, critiqued and then looked at by established members of the business community for their opinion.

Overall, I think the article came off pretty well. It was a well represented article and hopefully raised the profile of the site a little. Major bumma that they didn’t choose to include our logo – instead you get a picture of me looking like an idiot (and incidentally if you get the Havant and Waterlooville edition you get a picture of Rob!).

It is always good to have other people to look at the business idea too and give their insights. I found them quite helpful and they made some good points. I was not entirely sure why they asked someone who rarely gets take-aways or use the Internet to look at our site – but there you go.

Did you see the article? If so let us know your thoughts!
